WIMBLEDON

Family Garden with Studio

This spacious garden, nestled in the heart of Wimbledon, was ready for a contemporary transformation. The aim was to introduce a modern garden room that complemented the interior style of the home, while creating a functional space that could serve as a Pilates studio and sanctuary for a busy family. With five dogs, a cat, and multiple generations under one roof, the garden needed to reflect the family’s personality—offering room for connection, relaxation, and retreat, both together and individually.

Some areas of the garden had already been updated, and the varying levels throughout posed a creative challenge when integrating old and new. Planning a garden studio within a broader landscape design is essential to avoid it feeling like an afterthought. With careful consideration, it can sit naturally within its surroundings rather than dominate them. Embracing existing trees and working with the site’s natural levels helped the new studio feel instantly settled and mature.

We especially love the layered planting, which brings a lush, almost jungle-like feel to the space—enhanced by a backdrop of established bamboo that offers both seclusion and privacy. The site’s unique shape gave us the opportunity to experiment with levels, curves, colour, and water, resulting in a vibrant oasis within this bustling city village. It’s also a perfect reminder that modern garden design doesn’t need to be all straight lines—there’s always room for curves.
